Marco Guimarães is a doctoral student of Inter-university Doctoral Programme in Ageing and Chronic Disease (PhDOC) at the Neuroscience Research Domain in the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS), University of Minho (UM), Portugal.

He is graduated in Biochemistry (2009) by University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro and completed his master degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology (2012) at University of Coimbra (Portugal). The word developed during his master thesis was performed in Neuroscience domain at Janssen Pharmaceutica, Belgium.

Early 2013, he joint ICVS
as a Research fellow and he was interested in impact peripheral neuropathies and pain in mood and cognitive function in prefrontal cortex. Under supervision of Doctor Hugo Leite-Almeida (ICVS|UM) and Doctor Bruno Manadas (CNC|UC), he started his PhD project late 2015 and he is currently interested in elucidate the behavioural and molecular factors associated with Resilience and susceptibility to neuropathic pain manifestation. Marco is also interested in understanding the impact of peripheral nerve injuries in social behaviour.
