Ana Mendanha Falcão has recently started her research team supported by the la caixa junior leader fellowship. She is studying the functions of the choroid plexus (CP), an overlooked tissue whose most described function is the production of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).

During her PhD she have gained expertise in the CP and on the adult neural stem and progenitor cells of the subependymal zone. Then, she moved to Karolinksa Institutet where she has participated and developed research projects focused on oligodendrocyte (OL) cell biology and multiple sclerosis (MS) that have significantly changed the view of OL heterogeneity and OL role in MS pathology. These findings were published in the peer-review journals Science, Nature Medicine, Cell Reports and Nature, and have been disseminated worldwide.

The projects Ana Falcão is developing now result from a combination of her expertise acquired so far, and bridge three main themes together: choroid plexus biological functions, oligodendrocyte cell biology and multiple sclerosis etiology/pathology.
